Mopes Farmhouse

Client:
Location:  Bucks

Mopes Farmhouse, listed Grade II on account of its surviving 16th century timber framed central range and rear wing. It has been vacant for many years and was at serious risk due to poor quality alteration and extension, neglect and degraded setting. The location near a motorway made it uneconomic to restore as a large country house. Economically viable rescue depended on conversion to 4 houses and developing a new house in this Greenbelt site. One of these units embraces the surviving parts of the original timber framed house. These issues, including creating new gardens and landscape setting needed to be carefully justified before consent could be granted. Conversion also had to maximise floorspace with extensions and conversions of loft spaces. Construction is now well advanced.
